When the day arrived for D & M’s Carlsbad Flower Fields summer wedding, we knew not to expect the vibrant blooms in the month of June but what we didn’t expect was the most glorious cloudy day. The overcast skies brought a richness to the colors and light.

D and M are high school sweethearts who went to different schools and met through a mutual friend. It was truly love at first sight. M told me she couldn’t explain it, but it was just this feeling when they locked eyes like “this kid is gonna have a big impact on my life.” D knew M was the one the same way at the same time. He just always knew. It was always so easy like they had been friends over multiple lifetimes.

These two have the best personalities, both deeply caring and also light and silly. After twelve years together, their sweet first look, booty grabs, and emotional private vows were the most profound way to start the day.

M and D chose the Flower Fields as their wedding venue because D is passionate about gardening. It felt like the only venue that made sense for their day, and it was the only venue they looked at when planning their wedding. The vibrant fields of flowers were already cut back for the year, but the bougainvillea garden and wedding details were a vibrant contrast with the clouds overhead.

There were sentimental details included in almost every aspect of their wedding Carlsbad Flower Fields summer wedding. A handmade ring box D made himself held their rings made by a Japanese brand called called Niwaka. After a trip to Japan years earlier, Japanese culture came to mean a lot to M and D. The band they chose is called the Chojiro band. It is made to look like traditional Japanese tea pottery, with a more porous design. The rings are supposed to bring peaceful moments through marriage.

Their love for bougainvilleas were even included in the table center pieces and bouquets (which also held M’s paternal grandparents trinkets). M chose her siblings as her wedding party. When thinking about who she wanted standing behind her that day, it was always her brothers and sister. They group up so close to one another, and really see each other as best friends.

The plan originally had been to go offsite for their photos as we knew the blooms weren’t blooming. Instead I was able to talk them into staying to take advantage of the vibrant bougainvillea. When the dark skies, golden fields, and few remaining fuchsia and red flowers called to me, they trusted me with an adventure. D’s dark green suit, M’s wedding cape, and the contrast of sky and field was a moment that could never be duplicated.

The rest of the night consisted of pizza, fresh churros with ice cream, and the best dance moves you could imagine!
